Anna Bjerger book launch, Wednesday May 24 from 17-20

Anna Bjerger - Familiar Shadows

On the occasion of the opening of In the Pines - Slight Return, we will launch the new book Familiar Shadows by Anna Bjerger. The book was published for her recent solo exhibition at Kristianstad Konsthall and includes essays by the Norwegian writer Karl Ove Knausgård and Swedish art critic Karin Faxén.

In Familiar Shadows Knausgård writes on Bjerger's practice:

Bjerger's pictures are like existential snapshots, for even the most open and straightforward motifs are somehow enigmatic, even the greatest joy is part of a greater gravity, that no one – neither Anna Bjerger herself, me or anyone else who sees her pictures – can say what is: only the pictures can tell us, that is why they were painted, to show us a secret, not to reveal it.

The book can be purchased during the opening for DKK 200. (Normal price DKK 270).

Henry Krokatsis – New sculpture for Ladywell Fields, Lewisham

We are delighted to announce that UP Projects, working in partnership with Lewisham Council and The British Arts Council, will unveil a new permanent sculpture “Turning Tree” by Henry Krokatsis, in Ladywell Fields.

Krokatsis has taken a section of a Black Poplar tree, felled in the park by a storm in 2014 and cast the trunk in polished aluminium.

Lying horizontally in the River Ravensbourne and raised above the water surface, the glistening tree trunk will gently turn in response to a push or a change in the water current. This poetic sculpture creates a quiet monument to nature, transforming a moment of natural devastation into a visionary intervention in the park’s riverscape.
